It was a long and wet night in Yankee Stadium, but it resulted in the sixth straight win for the New York Yankees. Despite two rain delays, the Yankees were able to pull out the win on a long night. With American League East opponents playing each other, the Yankees are handling their business against a poor Rays team.
The Yankees were carried by their powerful bats in this game, as starter Michael Pineda didn’t last long. Pineda started out great for the Yankees, but he lost it in the fourth inning when he allowed back-to-back home runs.
It was certainly another good win for the Yankees. Here are the three stars of the game followed by the highlights.
Three Stars:
Mark Teixeira, Yankees — The easy choice for the first star of the game was the first baseman of the Yankees. In the fourth inning with a one-run lead, Teixeira came up with the bases loaded and hit a grand slam to extend the lead. The home run was the big hit in the game, and was a welcomed sight for Teixeira.
Gary Sanchez, Yankees — The second star of the game was catcher Gary Sanchez. In addition to hitting his 12th home run of the season, Sanchez also showed off his arm with a great throw to second base to pick off a runner.
Steven Souza/Logan Morrison — Even though the Rays were defeated by the Yankees, they did have two good performers. Both Logan Morrison and Steven Souza were able to hit home runs in the game. In addition to having back-to-back home runs, the two also each had multi-hit games.
