The Nationals say outfielder Jayson Werth had surgery on his broken left wrist and will miss more than six weeks.
Werth's operation was at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., on Monday, a day after he hurt himself trying to make a sliding catch against the Phillies.
The Nationals say this injury is not related to his left wrist problem in spring training of 2005.
Werth's glove got caught underneath him and he bent his wrist backward trying to grab a sinking liner in right field in the sixth inning. He stayed on the ground briefly before throwing the ball back to the infield. He walked off holding his left wrist.

Werth is hitting .276 with three homers and 12 RBI in the second season of his $126 million contract.
