The Washington Nationals have waived left-handers Scott Olsen and Jesse English.

Olsen chose to become a free agent, according to the Nationals, capping a disappointing two seasons with the team after coming over from the Florida Marlins in a trade.

Olsen went 4-8 with a 5.56 ERA in 81 innings in 2010. He was 2-4 with a 6.03 ERA in 2009, before season-ending shoulder surgery in July that year.

The 26-year-old Olsen is 37-49 with a 4.85 ERA in six major league seasons.

English was outrighted to Triple-A Syracuse, but the Nationals said he would become a minor league free agent Saturday. He made seven relief appearances for Washington in 2010, going 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA.
