Nationals scratch Rodriguez from lineup

Washington Nationals catcher Ivan Rodriguez was scratched from the lineup against the Chicago Cubs because of lower back tightness.

Wil Nieves started in his place Monday, although he was available as a substitute.

The back has been an issue lately for Rodriguez, the major league leader with a .411 average. He left Friday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the sixth inning and was supposed to be off the following day, although he delivered a pinch-hit single in the 13th inning before getting thrown out at the plate in a 4-3 loss.
