Nationals recall LHP Detwiler

Published Jul. 25, 2010 3:27 p.m. ET

The Washington Nationals have recalled Ross Detwiler from Double-A Harrisburg to start against the Milwaukee Brewers.

To make room for the left-hander, J.D. Martin was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a lower back strain. Martin started Saturday against Milwaukee but lasted just 2 1-3 innings after aggravating a bulging disk.

Detwiler, the team's No. 1 draft pick in 2007, is replacing Luis Atilano in the rotation. Atilano was placed on the DL Friday with bone chips in his right elbow.

Detwiler has not pitched this season after undergoing surgery on his right hip last February. He went 1-6 with a 5.00 ERA in 15 games with the Nationals in 2009.
