Nationals' Jordan Zimmermann discusses worst outing since April

Published Jun. 8, 2015 5:36 a.m. ET

Jordan Zimmermann has been on fire on the hill for the Washington Nationals as of late, which made his start against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday quite a surprise.

After going at least six innings in nine consecutive starts, Zimmermann only lasted five innings against the Cubs, giving up 10 hits and four earned runs in the process.

"Just wasn't locating, leaving the ball over the middle," Zimmermann reflected following the game. "My breaking pitches are terrible. That's going to happen when you don't have all your pitches."

Zimmermann's rough outing on Sunday marked the most earned runs and hits he's surrendered in a start since an April 13 outing against the Boston Red Sox, in which he was tagged for nine hits and seven earned runs and only lasted 2.1 innings.

"I just wasn't sharp today," he added, frankly.
