Nationals' Bryce Harper joins elite company with 13th homer in May

Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper's sensational hitting in May has found him in rare air.

After hitting his 13th home run of the month in the Nationals' 3-0 win over the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday, the young slugger joined an elite legion of hitters who have hit 13 homers in a single month.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, via ESPN, Harper has become the fifth right fielder in National League history to achieve the feat, joining the likes of Frank Robinson, Andre Dawson, Vladimir Guerrero, and Sammy Sosa.

Harper begin his home run tear in May with three straight games of long balls, which began May 6 with a three-homer game.

After hitting six home runs in three games during the Nationals' home stretch from May 6-9, Harper has averaged a home run every two games in May, most recently hitting a solo shot in his last two games.

Through 47 games, Harper is hitting .331/.470/.745 with 18 homers and 43 runs batted in.

His previous career highs are .274/.368/.486, which he achieved in 2013, and 22 home runs and 59 runs batted in, which he achieved in his rookie season in 2012.
