Moyer, Stairs added as Phillies broadcasters

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Former major leaguers Jamie Moyer and Matt Stairs have joined the Philadelphia Phillies' broadcasting team, replacing longtime announcer Chris Wheeler and former player Gary Matthews.

The announcement came Tuesday, more than a month after the Phillies signed a new television contract with NBCUniversal and Comcast SportsNet that's reportedly worth $2.5 billion over 25 years. Moyer and Stairs were members of the Phillies 2008 World Series championship team and 2009 NL championship club.

Each will broadcast more than 100 games, including 30 together. They join play-by-play announcer Tom McCarthy in the booth.

Moyer, who grew in nearby Souderton, won 269 games in a 26-year career. Stairs hit 265 homers in 19 seasons, including a major league-record 23 homers as a pinch-hitter.

''These two former Phillies bring a unique perspective to the booth, and their expert analysis will add a new level of energy, insight and enjoyment to our Phillies broadcasts,'' Comcast SportsNet President Brian Monihan says in a statement.
