Morton's return is near

Published May. 17, 2015 6:04 p.m. ET

Charlie Morton still has to make another rehab start, but barring a setback the right-hander will rejoin the Pirates rotation on the next homestand, according to Pirates.com.

“We want to make sure Charlie is taken care of, that he's given every opportunity to be as sharp as he can be when he comes in,” Pirates manager Clint Hurdle told Pirates.com.

Morton hasn't pitch all season as he had surgery in December, but he has already made two rehab starts and the results have been great.

“In two rehab starts, one each at Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis, Morton has allowed one earned run in 14 innings, with 13 strikeouts.”
