Morton's rehab going well

Published May. 3, 2015 10:02 p.m. ET

If all goes well right-hander Charlie Morton could rejoin the Pirates rotation in the relatively near future.

Morton, recovering from labrum surgery, recently pitched in a sim game, according to Pirates.com.

The report states that Morton “made 93 pitches in a six-inning workout he and Jim Benedict were both satisfied with.”

“Benedict, the pitching specialist on general manager Neal Huntington's staff, monitored the outing and “felt good about it,” manager Clint Hurdle relayed.”

Morton is scheduled to return to Pittsburgh this week and once the Pirates staff gets a chance to see him in person they will decide on the next step, presumable a Minor League rehab assignment.
