Mookie, Alfonzo to manage Futures Game in NYC
A pair of popular Mets from the past will be the managers for the Futures Game.
Mookie Wilson will lead the United States squad and former All-Star infielder Edgardo Alfonzo will pilot the World Team next month in the 15th annual game featuring top minor league prospects.
The Futures Game on July 14 marks the start of All-Star festivities at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets. Major League Baseball's 84th All-Star game will be played at the ballpark two days later.
The speedy Wilson was a Mets outfielder from 1980-89 and played a key role in the team's 1986 World Series championship. Alfonzo helped New York to a National League pennant in 2000.
In addition, ex-Mets Howard Johnson and Neil Allen are among the minor league coaches lined up for the Futures Game.
