Minor-leaguer escapes tag after bizarre game of chicken with pitcher

The game of baseball never ceases to produce incredible highlights and unusual plays. Another such oddity occurred on Sunday when the Birmingham Barons (White Sox Double-A affiliate) faced the Chattanooga Lookouts (Minnesota Twins).

In the bottom of the first inning, Barons outfielder Courtney Hawkins chopped a Ryan Eades pitch back toward the mound where Eades fielded it cleanly. And then this showdown happened:

That's probably the last time Eades engages in a game of walking pickle. He got charged with an error and later acknowledged that he bungled the play:
