Mets' Yoenis Cespedes has procedure on troublesome right knee

The New York Mets have rebounded after a slow start but they won't have their high-priced outfielder Yoenis Cespedes for the immediate future.

Cespedes had fluid drained from his right knee and the Mets have said his status is "day to day." The club hopes he can return by the middle of next week but no definitive timetable has been given.

Cespedes, who signed a three-year, $75 million deal in the offseason, injured the knee against the Marlins on April 13. The outfielder leapt into the stands at Citi Field while pursuing a foul ball. He did not miss any time after the injury, but the bruise on the knee didn't fully heal and began to develop fluid.

Cespedes is off to a solid start this season, hitting .288 with five homers and 14 RBI in 15 games.
