Mets update status of Niese, Wright and Santana
New York Mets pitcher Jonathon Niese passed a battery of tests Tuesday - two days after experiencing a rapid heartbeat during Sunday's start.
The Mets announced that Niese had been given numerous tests at Detroit's Henry Ford Hospital, including an EKG and a treadmill stress test. He was released, but given a heart monitor to wear for 24 hours, after which a decision would be made on his status for his next scheduled start.
The team also updated the injury recoveries of All-Stars David Wright and Johan Santana. Both are working out in Florida.
Wright has been out since May 16 with a stress fracture in his back, but took groundballs Tuesday and is expected to hit off a tee Wednesday.
Santana, coming off shoulder surgery, is continuing to play long-toss but could throw off a mound for the first time as soon as Wednesday.
