Mets say deGrom's newborn son could leave hospital Monday

CLEVELAND (AP) New York Mets manager Terry Collins says the newborn son of pitcher Jacob deGrom could be released from a hospital on Monday.

Collins said he spoke Sunday with the pitcher, who is with his family in Deland, Florida. Stacey deGrom gave birth to Jaxon on April 11.

DeGrom, who missed his last turn in the rotation because of a sore lat muscle in his right side, was placed on the family medical emergency list Saturday. The 2015 NL All-Star will be on the list from three to seven days.

''I talked to Jake this afternoon and they're hoping they can take the baby home tomorrow, which would be a huge step forward,'' Collins said after New York's 6-0 win over Cleveland.

Collins said deGrom threw a bullpen session Sunday andis scheduled to pitch a simulated game Tuesday.

DeGrom allowed one run in six innings against Philadelphia on April 8 in his only start this season.

Logan Verrett, who pitched six shutout innings against Miami in place of deGrom last week, it to start Tuesday at Philadelphia.
