Mets prospect Michael Conforto on his way to the big leagues?
New York Mets prospect Michael Conforto could be on his way to the big leagues as early as this week.
In need of an offensive spark, the Mets are reportedly considering calling up Conforto for his big league debut as early as Thursday, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
The 22-year-old outfielder, who's currently playing for Double-A Binghamton, got wind of the rumors but says he's focused at his current task at hand.
"It's cool to hear everything that's going on, my name being thrown around. That's awesome," Conforto told SNY on Tuesday. "I let my self be excited about it. But at the same time, I try not to go over the top with it. I'm here, and I have a job to do here."
WFAN reported on Tuesday that Conforto was discussed by the Mets' front office during a recent conference call, and it's "50-50″ on whether they'll bring up the Eastern League Player of the Week, who would replace ailing left fielder Michael Cuddyer.
The Mets have said that Cuddyer, who is battling a knee injury, could be placed on the disabled list this week if his condition doesn't improve. That would open the door for Conforto's promotion.
"I don't have any control over it," Conforto said (via WFAN). "I just try to improve every day while I'm here and do the best I can to help the team win."
Conforto, the 10th overall pick in the 2014 MLB Draft, is batting .317 with five home runs, 12 doubles and 25 RBIs in 43 games with the Binghampton Mets.
