Mets, Padres trade former top draft picks

Published Mar. 29, 2011 3:44 p.m. ET

The New York Mets have traded right-handed pitcher Eddie Kunz to the San Diego Padres for first baseman Allan Dykstra in a swap of minor league players.

Dykstra is not related to former Mets star Lenny Dykstra.

The 23-year-old Dykstra hit 16 home runs last season for Class A Lake Elsinore. The Padres made him their first-round pick in the 2008 draft, but almost didn't sign him after it was discovered he had a degenerative hip condition.

The 24-year-old Kunz pitched in four games for the Mets in 2008. He spent last year at Double-A Binghamton.
