Mets may have manager by Thanksgiving

Published Nov. 16, 2010 12:00 a.m. ET

The New York Mets could have a new manager in place by Thanksgiving Day.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson says the first round of interviews has been completed and that the team plans to bring back several candidates for a second round of talks.

Alderson expects to conclude the managerial search process in the next week or so. He spoke Tuesday at the GM meetings.

''I don't think it will take that long,'' Alderson said. ''I think the field is wide open. Certainly it's not a foregone conclusion.''

Terry Collins and Bob Melvin appear to be the favorites to replace Jerry Manuel, who was fired along with GM Omar Minaya. Wally Backman, Chip Hale, DeMarlo Hale, Dave Jauss, Ken Oberkfell and Don Wakamatsu also have been interviewed.
