Mets LF Michael Cuddyer day to day with sore knee, but no DL

NEW YORK (AP) Mets outfielder Michael Cuddyer has been given two shots to relieve discomfort in his left knee but expects to avoid the disabled list.

Cuddyer was out of New York's starting lineup Wednesday night against the Chicago Cubs after leaving Tuesday's game in the seventh inning. He had an MRI on Wednesday that revealed a slight strain and said doctors told him that was the ''best-case scenario.''

John Mayberry Jr. played left field, and Cuddyer said he won't be sidelined more than a couple of days.

It was good news for the banged-up Mets, who are struggling badly to score and can ill afford to be without their cleanup hitter for long even though Cuddyer hasn't lived up to expectations in his first season with the team. He has a .297 on-base percentage with six homers and 28 RBIs after signing a $21 million, two-year contract.
