ST. LOUIS (AP) The New York Mets have put pitcher Jonathan Niese on the 15-day disabled list and are leaning to toward knee surgery for the left-hander.

Manager Terry Collins said Wednesday the plan had not been finalized. Niese got only one out in his start Tuesday at St. Louis before being forced to leave the game.

Right-hander Erik Goeddel was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Niese is 8-7 with a 5.50 ERA in 29 games, 20 of them starts. He began the season with Pittsburgh and rejoined the Mets earlier this month in a deal at the trade deadline.
