Mets interview Baird for open GM job
Allard Baird is the first candidate to be interviewed by the New York Mets for their open general manager position.
A spokesman for the Mets says the former Kansas City Royals GM spent most of Monday at Citi Field meeting with chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon, assistant general manager John Ricco and other club executives.
Baird has been an assistant GM with the Boston Red Sox since November 2006, overseeing the club's professional scouting department and serving as an adviser to Theo Epstein. Baird was KC's GM from 2000-06.
Chicago White Sox assistant GM Rick Hahn is scheduled to interview Tuesday. Josh Byrnes, fired as Arizona's GM in July, will meet with the Mets on Wednesday.
The team also expects to interview baseball executive Sandy Alderson this week.
