Mets' deGrom 'really honored' to be named to first All-Star team
Jacob deGrom was selected Monday for the first of what will likely be many All-Star appearances for the New York Mets righty.
The 2014 National League Rookie of the Year was very grateful to have been voted onto the team by his peers.
"It's been unbelievable," deGrom said. "I would have never imagined it. I'm just thankful for the opportunity that I've had. I just found out, and to hear that the players voted me in is definitely special. I'm really honored to be able to pitch in the All-Star Game."
In 16 starts this season, the 27-year-old has compiled an 8-6 record with a 2.30 ERA and 102 strikeouts in 105 2/3 innings pitched.
"Look at the half he's had," NL All-Star manager Bruce Bochy said. "Look at the respect he's gotten from all the other players. He's got tremendous stuff. It's well-earned. The numbers show that."
