Mets Captain David Wright expects to be healthy for Spring Training

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

It’s been a long season for the Mets Captain.

In fact, it’s been a long couple of seasons. First, David Wright missed most of the 2015 season, luckily though back in time for the postseason, due to his spinal stenosis.  Then this season, which was supposed to be his return, didn’t quite work out that way.

Wright underwent season-ending neck surgery back in June. Last month Wright headed to a check-up on his neck. Last Wednesday, we all saw Wright at Citi Field. No, he obviously was not playing, but he was introduced during pregame introductions and the crowd erupted.

Before Wednesday’s game Wright told reporters that he’s expecting to have a normal offseason. He also expects to be 100% ready to play by Spring Training. He additionally will begin a three-month rehab program in Los Angeles.

Wright did acknowledge that he’s still going to have to do extra work on his back, but he seems in good spirits about the upcoming season.

“I’m confident the neck surgery is going to hold up and I’m confident my back is going to hold up and we go from there.”

Well if you’re confident Captain, I am too.

Yes, it’s hard to be confident about Wright returning and staying healthy next season. That’s what we all thought would happen this season; we thought that we’d have our Captain back. Well, we did have him back for a bit, just nearly not as long as he wished.

We all know how much Wright loves the game of baseball, and we all know how much Wright loves his team. He loves his teammates as well, even stating that he “would like to keep this team as intact as possible.” Same, Wright, and we all hope that includes you too.

As always, we’re wishing nothing but the best for Wright in his recovery, and we hope to see him 100% healthy both in Spring Training and during the season.
