Mets 9, Tigers 1

Oliver Perez threw four no-hit innings and the New York Mets hit four home runs Saturday in a 9-1 victory over a Detroit Tigers split squad.

Perez and reliever Hisanori Takahashi combined to no-hit the Tigers through the first six innings. Magglio Ordonez singled in the seventh for Detroit.

The Mets then erupted for nine runs in the seventh inning - getting home runs from David Wright, Daniel Murphy, Gary Matthews Jr. and a three-run shot from Jason Bay, his first as a Met.

For Wright, who hit just 10 home runs last year, it was his third home run of the spring.

As was the case in his first outing of the spring, Perez threw strikes - he walked just two batters. Unlike his last outing, however, when he surrendered seven hits and five earned runs against Washington, Perez kept the Tigers off balance during four encouraging innings of work.

``Every game is different,'' Perez said. ``Sometimes you have good stuff and they hit it. Today, I feel better than the first time out. I felt a little more focused. I felt good.''

Rookie Jenrry Mejia, whom Mets' manager Jerry Manuel is considering using as a setup man out of the bullpen, surrendered a run on three hits, but struck out three in two innings of work.
