Mauer to spend weekend with babies
The Minnesota Twins will be without All-Star catcher Joe Mauer until Tuesday.
Mauer, placed on the paternity list Wednesday after his wife gave birth to twin girls, will remain with his family through the weekend while the Twins face the Mariners in Seattle.
The paternity list is for a maximum of three days, so Mauer will be placed on the restricted list Saturday, assistant general manager Rob Antony said Friday night. Mauer is expected to rejoin the Twins for the start of their next series at home against Kansas City on Tuesday.
Mauer's wife remains in the hospital as a precaution, Antony said.
''We're behind him 100 percent,'' Minnesota manager Ron Gardenhire said. ''I'm proud of him for wanting to do the right thing and be there with his family. I think that's very, very important.''
