Marlins optimistic Martin Prado will return soon after All-Star break
Slowly but surely, the Miami Marlins are getting healthier.
After missing nearly a month of action, injured third baseman Martin Prado began a rehab assignment on Tuesday night, according to MLB.com.
The Marlins expect Prado, who has been on the disabled list with a right shoulder sprain, to return to the club shortly after the All-Star break.
"We're hoping, best case, probably not realistic to think he's back before the All-Star break," manager Dan Jennings said. "But just shortly after the All-Star break, he hopefully will be back."
Pitcher Henderson Alvarez, who has been sidelined with recurring inflammation in his shoulder, is also on the mend, and is expected to begin his own rehab assignment soon.
"He's getting close," Jennings said. "He's throwing bullpen [sessions] now. He's at about 40 pitches. He should be, sometime when the All-Star break starts, ready to begin his rehab outings. He's stretched out to 150 feet, and now it's just about building up a pitch count before we put him out in some games."
