Marlins' Jennings released from hospital after being hit in head

Marlins left-hander Dan Jennings was released from a Pittsburgh hospital on Friday, a day after he was hit in the head by a line drive.

Miami put Jennings on the seven-day concussion list. He was expected to fly back to Florida on Friday evening after being released from Allegheny General Hospital. Jennings was hit by Jordy Mercer's liner during the seventh inning of Pittsburgh's 7-2 win.

''Everything checked out fine,'' manager Mike Redmond said. ''The good news is he was cleared to fly home. That tells you a lot about how he's doing.''

The Marlins also called up infielder Ed Lucas, right-hander Anthony DeSclafani and left-hander Edgar Olmos from Triple-A New Orleans for the opener of a series against Cincinnati. Left-hander Brian Flynn and infielder Kike Hernandez were optioned.
