Marlins, catcher Buck close to deal

The Florida Marlins are close to signing free-agent catcher John Buck to a three-year deal worth more than $15 million.

Buck, 30, had a career year last season. The right-handed hitter batted .281 with 20 home runs and 66 RBIs this past season for the Toronto Blue Jays — all career highs.

He spent the previous six seasons with the Kansas City Royals.
