Mariners to fly rainbow flag Sunday

Published Jun. 27, 2013 3:01 p.m. ET

The Seattle Mariners will be flying the rainbow flag on Sunday during their game against the Chicago Cubs.

A group called Seattle Out & Proud says the Mariners will be the first Major League Baseball team to publicly fly the gay pride flag. But Mariners spokeswoman Rebecca Hale says she cannot confirm that.

The team has gotten a handful of comments about its plans, which were publicized by the group organizing Seattle's gay pride parade on Sunday.

Hale says the Mariners are flying the rainbow flag at Safeco Field as a reflection of their place in the community.
