Maddon on Coghlan: 'He's the new 'IH''
If you ask Cubs manager Joe Maddon about Chris Coghlan, it appears that Maddon has given the outfielder a new title.
"He's the new 'IH' now - the Iron Horse," Maddon told CSN Chicago. "He's playing really well. His batting average is around .250, but he's hitting the ball a lot harder than that.
"He's been really unlucky early in the season. Probably our most hard-luck hitter. He's hit the ball well. Our ballpark actually plays really big when the wind's blowing in and he's been robbed several times by the wind with really well-struck baseballs."
Coghlan has been very valuable for the Cubs this season for a number of reasons. Not only can he play multiple positions on defense, but he can also hit pretty much anywhere in the order.
Maddon has moved Coghlan up and down the order this season and the freedom to do so has helped the rest of the Cubs lineup.
That kind of versatility allows Maddon to put Coghlan in the lineup everyday and so far he has been.
According to CSN Chicago, Coghlan has played in 131 straight games, the longest active streak in baseball.
