GETTING LOOSE

The AL champion Kansas City Royals will work out at Kauffman Stadium, a day before hosting the White Sox. Yordano Ventura will start for KC - the 23-year-old ace signed a $23 million, five-year contract over the weekend.

FEEL BETTER

Rangers manager Jeff Banister planned to meet the team in Oakland, a day ahead of the opener. The first-year skipper missed the last spring training game because of flu-like symptoms. Texas won only two of its last 20 exhibitions.

CLOSE

Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander is set to throw a light bullpen session. The former AL MVP is expected to begin the year on the disabled list because of a triceps problem. Detroit hopes he can make his first start April 12 vs. Cleveland.
