Television viewership for the AL championship series on TBS was up 28 percent over last year's coverage of the NLCS, boosted by the presence of the New York Yankees.

Detroit's four-game sweep averaged 5,924,000 viewers, the network said Friday, up from 4,612,000 for the St. Louis Cardinals' six-game win over Milwaukee last year. This year's ALCS had a 3.8 rating, a 31 percent rise over the 2.9 for last year's NLCS.

TBS and Fox alternate leagues for LCS coverage.

The rating is the percentage of television households tuned to a telecast.
