KC reportedly has 'no chance' to keep Alex Gordon with current offer

The Kansas City Royals are still interested in bringing back free-agent left fielder Alex Gordon, but they might not be able to make it happen.

According to a report by Jon Heyman of CBS Sports on Wednesday, the Royals are said to have "no chance" at keeping Gordon - at least based on their current offer.

Heyman quotes Jim Bowden of ESPN as saying that Kansas City has offered Gordon's camp a four-year contract worth $12 million to $13 million per year, while also saying that the star outfielder is most likely seeking at least $20 million annually on the free-agent market.

Despite all of these external reports of the Royals' apparent efforts to keep Gordon in town, GM Dayton Moore recently told Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com that there is no benefit from the team's perspective to comment on any of these reports:

"The minute you start commenting on one of them," Moore said by phone, "and the next time you don't comment at all, people start saying, 'Oh, it must be true then.' It doesn't make any sense for us. I will say that I haven't talked to anyone [in the media] about our specific negotiations."

How the Gordon situation plays out could have big ramifications on the Royals' immediate and long-term future.
