Kapler placed on DL with hip injury

The Tampa Bay Rays have placed outfielder Gabe Kapler on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hip flexor and recalled outfielder Justin Ruggiano from Triple-A Durham.

The moves were announced before Saturday night's interleague game against Florida.

Kapler has a .217 batting average with one homer and eight RBIs in 38 games.

Ruggiano appeared in a combined 52 games with the Rays during the 2007 and 2008 seasons, hitting .200 with two homers and 10 RBIs. He was hitting .291 with four homers and 19 RBIs in 44 games this season with Durham.
