Jose Fernandez pitches Marlins past Nationals 3-2

MIAMI (AP) Jose Fernandez pitched six innings and then led the dugout celebration as Miami made him a winner again at Marlins Park by beating Washington 3-2 Saturday night.

Fernandez (6-2) allowed one run, struck out nine and improved to 21-1 in 31 starts at home.

When Justin Bour put Miami ahead to stay with a two-run homer in the sixth, Fernandez leaped onto the dugout ledge, pounded the railing and hopping happily as he screamed.

The always-animated right-hander then turned the game over to the bullpen. A.J. Ramos, the last of three relievers, gave up a run in the ninth but escaped a bases-loaded, none-out jam without further damage for his 13th save in as many chances.

Ichiro Suzuki hiked his average to .373 with three singles and a double - the first four-hit game for the 42-year-old outfielder since August.

Joe Ross (3-4), pitching on his 23rd birthday, lost to Fernandez for the second start in a row.
