Jeter pulls up lame, leaves Red Sox game in 8th

New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter pulled up limping after running out a grounder in Wednesday night's game against the Boston Red Sox.

But he said he will be back in the lineup Thursday.

The Yankees' captain bounced into the inning-ending double play with runners on first and third. After failing to beat the relay, he came up limping just after he stepped on the bag.

Manager Joe Girardi said Jeter wanted to stay in the game, but he told his shortstop to go put ice on his foot. Girardi said it was a bone bruise, but Jeter said it was a sprained ankle.

The Yankees won 5-4 to remain tied with Baltimore for first in the AL East.
