Jeter exits Game 3 with leg injury

Yankees star Derek Jeter left Game 3 of the American League Division Series on Wednesday night with what was diagnosed as a bone bruise in his left foot.

Jeter fouled a pitch off his foot in the third inning. He went on to triple in the at-bat but was in obvious pain as the game went on. He exited after striking out in the eighth inning and was replaced by Jayson Nix at shortstop.

Asked about Jeter’s status for Thursday’s Game 4, manager Joe Girardi said, “It's day to day. We’ll see how he feels. Hopefully we can get him back in there.”

Jeter, with a .462 average, has been the Yankees’ most consistent hitter in the ALDS against Baltimore. He watched the late stages of the thrilling, 12-inning, 3-2 Yankees win from the dugout, wearing a hooded sweatshirt. He was seen conferring with Yankees head athletic trainer Steve Donohue.
