Jason Bay has been placed on baseball's new paternity leave list and the New York Mets have recalled outfielder Lucas Duda.
Bay left the team to be with his wife, Kristen, for the birth of their third child. Mets manager Terry Collins says he expects to be without his left fielder for two days.
Duda was in left field Tuesday night for the opener of a three-game series against San Francisco.
Bay is in a 1-for-17 slump. He began the season on the disabled list with a strained left rib cage after missing the final two months last year because of a concussion.

Duda started the season with the Mets and went 2 for 17 (.118) in eight games before being optioned April 10 to Triple-A Buffalo.
