Jarrod Parker seriously reinjures arm during rehab start

Published May. 10, 2015 1:35 a.m. ET

Oakland Athletics pitcher Jarrod Parker, rehabbing from Tommy John surgery last spring, started on Friday night for the Triple-A Nashville Sounds. This was his fourth rehab start of the year, and a return to the majors looked likely for the 26-year-old.

But in the sixth inning, Parker fell to the ground in extreme pain after throwing a pitch, immediately conjuring memories of Dave Dravecky and Tony Saunders (among others).

Parker was described as being in “excruciating pain” and “near tears” following the injury, and those are two phrases you absolutely never want to hear.

He was later diagnosed with a fractured elbow. We hope the best for him as he faces another recovery period.
