Why not just call it “Anthony Weiner Night”?
The Double-A Richmond Flying Squirrels have dubbed Thursday “Salute to Scandal Night,” but, really, as far as we’re concerned, it’s all about Weiner. And wieners.
Because the New York mayoral candidate has become infamous for his inability to, shall we say, keep the hot dog in the bun when it comes to online interactions with women, the Richmond club is offering fans $1 hot dogs accompanied by a contest in which they are supposed to tweet photos showing themselves enjoying the discount dogs.
Now, that couldn’t be anything but totally tasteful, could it?
Club vice president Todd Parnell said, as reported by the Associated Press, that the promotion is “meant to be a fun, tongue-in-cheek night.”
Tongue-in-cheek? Don’t give the fans any ideas, OK?
To round out the scandal theme, the Flying Squirrels also will offer a “Brett Favre football throw” and “Tiger Woods closest to the pin challenge.”
If the Squirrels really wanted to take it up a notch, they could ask one of their players to change his name for the night. Then fans could hear the P.A. announcer intone, “Batting fourth, the first baseman, Carlos Danger.”
