Is it time to call up Cleveland Indians top prospect Francisco Lindor?
The Indians are in need of a spark. And it's looking more and more like Francisco Lindor could be the guy to light it.
Cleveland's No. 1 prospect got off to a slow start at Triple-A Columbus, but the young shortstop is finally heating up -- collecting 10 hits and raising his average to .302 over the weekend.
Lindor went 2-for-3 in each game of a doubleheader with Louisville on Sunday. He's 15-for-39 with one home run, five RBI, and a .385 average over his last ten games.
To what does Lindor credit his recent offensive surge?
A simplified approach.
"My mind is free of thoughts. I'm not going crazy at the plate and thinking way too much," Lindor told the Columbus Dispatch on Sunday.
The Dispatch noted that Lindor also gave credit to roving hitting coach Jim Rickon and Clippers hitting coach Rouglas Odor with helping him dig out of slump.
While Lindor might not have been ready for the big leagues right out of spring training, he's now making his case for a major-league call up.
Jose Ramirez, the Indians' every day shortstop, has struggled at the plate so far this season. He's hitting .196 with one home run and two RBI in 51 games with the Tribe -- which could open the door for a Lindor promotion.
