Infielder Felipe Lopez agrees with Tampa Bay Rays

Infielder Felipe Lopez has agreed to a minor league contract with the Tampa Bay Rays.

The 30-year-old switch-hitter, an All-Star with Cincinnati in 2005, batted .233 with eight homers, 37 RBIs and eight steals last season for the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox. The Cardinals released him on Sept. 21, one day after he was late arriving for a game against Florida.

Lopez has a .266 average with 88 homers and 123 steals in 10 seasons with Toronto (2001-02), Cincinnati (2003-06), Washington (2006-08), St. Louis (2008, 2010), Arizona (2009), Milwaukee (2009) and Boston (2010).
