Indians salute Mike Hegan

Mike Hegan was honored by the Cleveland Indians for his 50th year in professional baseball.

Hegan's four grandchildren tossed out ceremonial first pitches following ceremonies Saturday night during a doubleheader against the Minnesota Twins.

The son of former Indians great catcher Jim Hegan signed with the New York Yankees in 1961, played 12 seasons in the majors and has been a broadcaster for 34 years, the last 23 with Cleveland.

Hegan was an AL All-Star with the Seattle Pilots in 1969 and helped the Oakland Athletics win the 1972 World Series.

Hegan and the late Indians pitcher and broadcaster Herb Score are nominees for the 2012 Ford Frick Award presented for excellence in baseball broadcasting.
