Hot streak earns Rangers' Fielder co-Player of the Week honor

The Texas Rangers recently took over first place in the AL West, and slugger Prince Fielder had a lot to do with it.

After being a thorn in the side of the Houston Astros' pitching staff during the Rangers' four-game sweep at Globe Life Park, Fielder was named the AL's co-Player of the Week on Monday alongside Jose Abreu of the Chicago White Sox.

MLB.com's Jay Nowak broke it down: Fielder went 8-for-26 (good for a .308 average) from September 14-20, hitting three home runs and leading the AL in runs scored. Abreu hit a tick better (11-24, 458) with two home runs and tied Fielder with nine RBI over the span.

It's hardly a coincidence that the Rangers find themselves in the driver's seat in the division the same time Fielder puts on a splashy offensive display. The club is banking on his thunderous presence in the middle of the lineup right now, and it's paid off.

Fielder and teammate Adrian Beltre have joined forces to form quite a powerful duo that leads by example, and it's definitely helped the Rangers over the past few weeks as they charged through the division en route to their current spot in first place.
