Holliday may try to play in All-Star Game
Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday has been sidelined since tearing his right quardiceps muscle on June 8, but was recently elected to the All-Star Game and intends to play if possible.
“The All-Star Game means a lot to him,” Cardinals manager Mike Matheny told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “He was as excited as a guy who’s never been there before.”
Holliday would like to return to the Cardinals line-up at the end of the week, but in order to do so there are some things he needs to be able to do early this week.
“I feel like I’m getting pretty close,” Holliday said. “But you can’t go from 50 percent to 100 percent without all the steps in between. You don’t roll out there at 80 percent and something surprises you and you re-hurt it.
“It’s one of those things where you make sure all the bases are covered before you go try to play.”
