DETROIT (AP) Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez left Saturday night's start against Detroit after five innings, ending a major league record success streak.
Hernandez had gone at least seven innings and allowed no more than two runs in his previous 16 starts. Tom Seaver set the previous mark of 13 in 1971.
Hernandez appeared to be in some discomfort after being hit in the leg by Ian Kinsler's sharp grounder to end the fourth, but he pitched one more inning.
The All-Star right-hander gave up two runs and seven hits in five innings.
