Published Jun. 28, 2011 9:14 p.m. ET

Atlanta right-hander Tommy Hanson was activated from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday to start against the Seattle Mariners.

Hanson (8-4) had not pitched since June 12 when he beat Houston 4-1 and limited the Astros to just three hits in seven innings while striking out 14. A day later, he went on the disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis.

The 24-year-old currently leads the NL in opponents batting average (.189) and is third in ERA at 2.48. After starting the season 1-3, Hanson has won seven of his last eight decisions, including three straight.

Right-hander Jairo Asencio was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett to make room for Hanson. Asencio was recalled by the Braves on June 17. He's appeared in six games this season.
