Guillen: Twins no longer piranhas

Published Aug. 12, 2010 12:27 a.m. ET

Piranhas, no more.

White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen says the Twins have outgrown the term of endearment he gave them four years ago for the pesky, fundamental style they used of slap hitting and hustling.

Guillen says ''they're not piranhas anymore.''

It's not the first time Guillen has backed away from that moniker, but he's not sure what to call the Twins now, other than a good team. The Twins entered Wednesday with a one-game lead over the White Sox after pounding out five homers in a 12-6 win the previous night.

Guillen praised the Twins for contending ''year after year after year after year.''

As for a new nickname? Guillen said ''killer bees'' but backed off that. Sharks? He says they're ''not sharks anymore.''
