NEW YORK -- The San Francisco Giants have designated second baseman Dan Uggla and outfielder Tyler Colvin for assignment after losing five of six on a horrid homestand.

The Giants filled the two spots by calling up Double-A infielder Matt Duffy and outfielder Jarrett Parker before their game Friday night against the New York Mets. Duffy was set to start at second base Friday.

Uggla was signed by San Francisco on July 21 after being cut by Atlanta. The three-time All-Star was called up from Triple-A Fresno when Marco Scutaro went on the disabled list July 25 with a lower back strain. In four games, Uggla was 0 for 11 with six strikeouts, and he made three errors.

Colvin batted .223 in 57 games for the Giants this year.
