Former MLB player among 40 indicted

Federal officials say a former Major League baseball player and 39 other people have been indicted on federal drug trafficking charges.

The U.S. Attorney's Office issued a statement on Tuesday saying that Angel Santos Berrios was second in command of a drug ring that sold crack, heroin, cocaine and prescription pills in the southern mountain town of Cayey.

It says the group had operated since 2000 and would use taxicabs to deliver the drugs.

The 33-year-old Berrios is in custody and it is unclear if he has an attorney. He played second base for the Boston Red Sox in 2001 and with the Cleveland Indians in 2003, batting .207 overall in 41 games for the two teams.
